Yes, this is brilliant and how I've felt about things for a long time. I've worked in the environmental field and studied Ecosystem Services; it pained me. Having to justify our natural world in terms of monetary value was so limiting, and often just an opportunity to outweigh the measures by the economic growth achieved through development of such space. Look now at the Cubbington Pear, the longest lived pear tree in the country, grubbed up for HS2 and gone forever. The scars felt by those who cared can never be valued by calculations in a spreadsheet. You cannot measure the smell of a newborn baby, or the joy felt laughing with friends, but you can feel it in your heart and that is enough. Thank you for this article.
